About CONNECT Basic Drug & Alcohol Awareness Training:
CONNECT is a bespoke training program developed and delivered by individuals with lived experience of drug and alcohol problems. It focuses on the causes and effects of problems associated with drugs and alcohol and is aimed at organisations, businesses, volunteers, and individuals who want to improve their understanding of this critical issue. Through sharing personal experiences, CONNECT aims to break down stigmas, promote empathy, and empower others to address their problems more effectively within their communities.

We believe that more awareness about the risks associated with alcohol and drug use and information about the potential harms assists people to make better informed decisions about drinking alcohol and / or using drugs. The list below provides information about drugs and alcohol, their effects, the harms and the risks associated with using them. In addition there is the legal classification of controlled or illegal drugs.

Local Drug Information System (LDIS)

There is a process for sharing drug intelligence and concerns in relation to overdoses etc. It can seem a bit confusing so here’s a reminder for those that are aware or a description of the process for those that are new …

Each area has a Local Drug Information System (LDIS). This is a panel made up of commissioners, police, public health representatives, our service managers, consultants, and director. We have a Pan Sussex one to cover West Sussex, East Sussex and Brighton and Hove.

There is a set process to be followed when any new information is received.

There is a form that needs to be completed with all the known information which you can find in this section.

Once complete it needs to be sent to DrugAlertSussex@cgl.org.uk.

Ann Etteridge is the coordinator for the Pan Sussex LDIS so it would usually be her who reads the emails, gathers more information where needed and possible. Ann will then share all the information with Ian Dunster (panel chair) in the first instance and then if needed with the panel so they can agree on the next actions.
